California oil field preservation fight is $20m short of $95m land purchase

West Coyote Hills, a 510-acre former oil field in Fullerton, California, has faced development pressure for five decades. After 25 years of efforts to preserve the land, a plan is now close to completion. California has approved a $95 million purchase of the remaining site, with $75 million already committed. Supporters are seeking the final $20 million to permanently protect the habitat as parkland and a nature preserve.
