On Saturday, August 8, the Bountiful Food Pantry will host its second annual Pantry Packs in the Park at Bountiful City Park. Kicking off at 8:00 a.m., the event brings volunteers and families together to assemble thousands of food packs for Davis County students facing food insecurity.
Last year's inaugural event drew an enthusiastic crowd, and this year, organizers have set an ambitious goal: packing 6,000 kits in a single morning.
A Growing Need in Davis County
The pantry packs are a critical safety net for local students. With economic uncertainty and recent job layoffs contributing to a rise in food insecurity, the Bountiful Food Pantry has seen a steady increase in need over the last few years.
“Pantry packs are one of the most important ways that we prevent hunger in Davis County,” said Rebekah Anderson, executive director of the pantry. “It’s great to get community members together to assemble these pantry packs and help the important cause of preventing hunger in our children.”
The impact of the program is staggering. During the 2024–2025 school year alone, the Bountiful Food Pantry distributed over 100,000 pantry packs across Davis County schools—averaging about 4,000 packs per week. More broadly, the pantry served over 102,000 people in 2025, distributing more than 2.725 million pounds of food.
What Goes Into a Pack?
Funded by cash donations and community contributions, each carefully curated pantry pack is designed to sustain a student over the weekend.
Each pack includes:

Two full meals

Two breakfasts

A drink packet

Fruit snacks, a fruit pouch, granola bars, and crackers

A cheerful, handwritten note expressing love and best wishes to the student
More Than Just Volunteering
While the mission is serious, the event itself is designed as a celebration of community.
Volunteers of all ages can enjoy a festival-like atmosphere while they work. The morning will feature:

Free soda served all day (provided by Totally Hitched Events)
The event is made possible through heavy community sponsorship, largely funded by Young Automotive Group’s Young Caring for Our Young initiative, alongside Mountain Ops, AAA, and Totally Hitched Events.
