Mamdani announces plans for city-owned grocery stores that offer subsidized food

New York City's socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced Monday the city will open five government-owned food stores by 2029 and will offer a 30% discount on bread and cheese as well as "a core basket of everyday groceries."
