Donald Trump on Friday said the US had become a "soccer country" after hosting the 2026 World Cup with Mexico and Canada "that brought the world together". But the tournament has not been without its controversies, from hardline US migration policies that excluded fans – and one Somali referee, as well as the president's successful appeal to FIFA to overturn a red card for a US player.
