Australian coal mine became a lake holding about 30 billion litres of water

Lake Kepwari, a former coal mine void near Collie, Western Australia, has been transformed into a recreational hub. This artificial lake now offers swimming, boating, camping, and water sports for visitors. The transformation involved significant planning, water management, and infrastructure development over many years. Water was diverted from the Collie River South Branch to fill the large void. This project demonstrates repurposing industrial landscapes for tourism and community benefit.
