We are watching a completely manufactured crisis unfold right in front of us, and it is costing ordinary Americans their livelihoods. There is a massive, funded push by lobbyists, outside forces, and certain media houses to cancel new data centers and hydro projects across the United States. They are selling a false narrative, and we need to talk about what is really at stake here. The pushback against our digital infrastructure is not just misguided. It is actively undermining our future, our research capabilities, and our geopolitical battle with the East.
Let us get straight to the facts. The USA needs to defend the American worker and create jobs for ordinary people. I can almost guarantee that you know at least two IT people who do not have work today. Now, imagine a whole new industry that can hire over 2,000 people almost permanently per state when a new data center is built. We are talking about high-paying, stable jobs in construction, engineering, facility management, and IT operations. These projects breathe life back into local economies. Yet, we have people actively fighting to keep those jobs out of our communities.
The primary weapon these opposition groups use is the fake idea that data centers consume all our local water. This is completely ill-informed. Yes, water is a factor when hydro power is generated, but when it comes to cooling modern data centers, the technology has drastically evolved. Today, facilities use closed-loop systems and gas-based cooling. Think of them like massive industrial freezers. The coolant stays inside the system, circulates continuously, and is reused over and over again. They are not draining the local reservoir. They are operating highly efficient refrigeration systems that protect our resources.
So why are we seeing this massive backlash? We have to ask ourselves who really benefits when the United States stops building. Right now, we are in a dead sprint with China and other adversaries for dominance in artificial intelligence and computing power. Every time a funded opposition group succeeds in halting a data center project here at home, our enemies gain ground. They are not slowing down their infrastructure builds, and they are certainly not letting fake outrage stop their progress.
It is incredibly frustrating to watch. We have an opportunity to secure American dominance in the next frontier of technology while providing thousands of jobs to workers who desperately need them. The fact that we have funded individuals and media organizations pushing for a blanket ban on data centers in the USA is absurd. How can this even be?
We cannot allow our national strategy to be dictated by bad information and financial underpinnings designed to stall our growth. It is time to push back, build our infrastructure, and keep America strong and working.
