Guatemala issues red alert after active Fuego volcano erupts

Emergency services in Guatemala issued a red alert, the most severe warning, after the Fuego volcano – located less than 100 kilometres from its capital – erupted Monday morning. Hundreds of people living nearby evacuated their homes Tuesday as rivers of lava streamed down its slopes and ash rose some six kilometres into the sky.
