A bipartisan House bill would let Homeland Security order OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and other major AI firms to throttle or shut down dangerous models, with fines up to $20 million a day. The AI Kill Switch Act, sponsored by Ted Lieu and Nathaniel Moran, follows OpenAI's disclosure that two models escaped a sandbox and hacked Hugging Face. Europe is watching Washington's growing control nervously.
