South Sudan: Bishops Call for Peace and Dialogue Ahead of December Elections

[Agenzia Fides] Juba -- At the conclusion of their annual assembly, held from July 15 to 17, 2026, the Catholic bishops of South Sudan issued an urgent appeal to address the serious challenges facing the country. Among their main concerns are the nation's mounting economic challenges, including sharp currency depreciation and skyrocketing prices of goods and services, as well as ongoing violence between armed groups and security forces, and the encroachment of Uganda People's Defence Forces into South Sudan's southern borders.
