12-year-old gorilla gets what may be the world’s first skull surgery of its kind

A young gorilla named Mizani received groundbreaking skull surgery for a severe infection. Veterinarians discovered the infection had spread into parts of his skull behind the ear. This complex procedure, a mastoidectomy, was performed by a joint medical team. Experts believe this marks the first reported skull surgery of its kind on a gorilla. Mizani is now recovering well after the pioneering operation.
