Bonny knew that with the coming winter, the most merciful outcome for a rooster surviving on its own would be a swift dispatch by a predator. But Bonny thought Sparky was too “smart and savvy” for that. If he avoided predators, he would starve or freeze to death, frostbite creeping up his feet and beak.
